Main Characters
Azure Knight
“I’m a son of Shumatra Choi, the hero of the Trieste continent and an Azure Knight of the Incar!”
Choi is the son of the great Shumatra Choi who defeated the Norak, survived alone among his fellow knights in a night-long battle against the Spider Queens, and ultimately became head of the Azure Knights. But Garion’s path was not to be simple. When his father was executed under a death penalty pronounced by his enemy, Duce Mable, Garion was devastated. He wandered away from his post and was not seen again for many months. In his lonely travels, he replayed the injustice of his father’s execution again and again. In his travels, he met the great Bagi chief, Nut Shain. It was Nut Shain who questioned Garion Choi and who revealed to him that he was a direct descendent of the infamous Kalizio Vaschu - the wizard who caused the Grand Fall and unleashed the forces of the Abyss upon the world. His world doubly shaken, Garion Choi began a journey of self-discovery, a journey that continues to this day. His central struggle is to discover his own identity, separate from that of his father and his ancestors, but his purpose as he travels, to protect Trieste and and to vanquish Karon’s forces of the Abyss. Today, Garion Choi is known everywhere as a champion of the land and a sworn enemy of the forces of Karon. He has a special affinity with the Bagi, but is also revered by the Azure Knights for his father’s sake.
Sagita Hunter
“It’s simple. I look at only one point when aiming at my target. I am never distracted. I am unseen, as I am only the arrow.”
Eva Laiana’s beauty is fabled in song and story, but always in contrast to the violence and deadly events of her life. Her obvious abilities in archery led her to serve with the Dekaron in defense of Trieste. Though her beauty might have offered her a safe life among the elite, she chose the dangers of the cold wastes around Parca Temple, where she lived. An orphan from very young, she had developed superior survival instincts and her arrows rarely missed their mark. She came very close to death after a series of unfortunate accidents caused the shields of the jails to fail, releasing hordes of angry monsters into the shrine at Parca Temple. Many died that day, and Eva’s arrows took their toll. But though she was able to avoid the onslaught of the monsters, many of those who fought with her did not fare so well. It was one of them, a young recruit, who strayed too close to the battle and was thrown bodily through the air, hitting Eva even as she was aiming at another monster. The force of his body hitting her caused her arrow to miss and the monster was upon her. Drawing her dagger, Eva slashed the throat of the creature, but took a deep wound before she could finish it off. She found her bow and began firing as quickly as she could, even as her life blood flowed from her weakening body. She was found clinging feebly to life after the battle, with one last arrow on the bowstring and ready to fire. With the help of the Segnale healers, she survived, but barely.
Incar Magician
“I am a messenger of the Incar.”
Sirna Otin does not know who her parents were. She only remembers being in the Den of Norak, a young girl of 14 years, with the power of healing and of self-protection. Nothing before that. She made her way to the surface and somehow, through a natural ability, arrived at Braiken Castle where she was given a home with a knight and his family. There she learned about the Zodiac, the elite rulers of Trieste, and she vowed to become one of them. She studied with the Incar and came to the notice of Duce Mable himself. Even when Duce Mable’s scandal with Shumatra Choi caused a great disturbance among the Incar and the knights of Genoa declared war on Helicita, Sirna stayed true to her dream and helped reform the Incar and the Zodiac. Her mysterious powers were used to help others and to protect her from those who would harm her and she became a great heroine of Trieste.
Vicious Summoner
“Black Magic- Call it what you will. I’m just a Summoner because I like the power.”
Romvart Genzo does everything to extremes. He is quick to anger, and quick to love. He was born to an elite family, but was always compared with his cousin, Daimon Russe. A handsome boy, he became a man of striking good looks, but his temperament was always extreme. His rivalry with Daimon led him to explore the forbidden dark arts of the Summoner, and he soon found that he had a natural talent for channeling the dark energies and his passion matched the ferocity of the creatures he brought forth. When his father, Timon Genzo and cousin Daimon were killed by Shumatra Choi, he transformed. His frivolous approach to life was gone, and he became a Dekaron, dedicated to the protection of the land from evil forces, though some say his participation in the siege of Helicita was not entirely voluntary, and his friendships within the Dekaron are tentative. The dark path of the Summoner leads men to separate from the real world, and so it is with Romvart, who is only partly of this world.
Segnale
“I will let you come close, but not too close.”
Tamara of the Segnale has both the beauty and the cruelty of her race, which was spawned in the depths of the Abyss, but which was not mindlessly evil. In time, the Segnale came to fight for the human side, finding more in common with the creatures of good than those of evil. Yet, they always maintain their differences, and their lust for blood. Tamara is like a ghost whose location cannot be known. She uses her beauty to beguile humans, and her Blood Whip to decimate her enemies. For years she hunted alone, aloof and uninterested in the greater implications of the world, but one day she rescued a child - a small human creature - from a terrible beast of the Abyss. Something stirred within her heart - something very deep and generally ignored - and after that she approached the Incar and became a Dekaron, formally joining the humans in their quest to rid the world of the taint of the Abyss.
Bagi Warrior
“Warriors! Who is the common foe-”
Being the third head of the Bagi following his father Chiakra Kumer, Cambira Batu has the courage to explore new ways. He instilled his ambitions into his fellow Bagi and led them to victory over the Segitta of Jaden Castle. After that battle, the Bagi became known and feared - and respected - throughout the land. His seemingly limitless dynamic energy never waivered, and he began to have visions of taking over Helicita and ultimately all of Trieste. But one day a Bagi village was destroyed by a wandering horde of the monsters of the Abyss, and it was a human band of knights and Incar who came to their rescue. After that, Cambira Batu came to realize that the real threat was the common danger of the Abyss. He curbed his personal ambitions and controlled his Bagi pride and offered his support, becoming one of the Dekaron, dedicated to the destruction of Karon and the forces of the Lower Bound. Whether his ambitions are gone, or just suspended temporarily, nobody can tell for certain.
Aloken
“I am an Aloken, hidden in the Eternal Forest no more. Demons beware my spear!”
Elia Kirios, orphan of the Aloken, dreamed of leaving the Eternal Forest, where her people had voluntarily made their home, away from all the turmoil and strife of the land of Trieste. Under the steady guidance of their leader, Mistress Inish, Elia grew strong, but, perhaps, not wise. She dreamed of the days when Aloken had been the rulers of the Land, and could not understand why they hid behind the great magical barrier, the Ban, that kept them safe, but also removed them from the world. “Aren’t we the mightiest of warriors-” she would ask. But Mistress Innish would chide her. “We learned the lessons of pride long ago, dear one,” she would say. But Elia’s ambitions and dreams would not be quelled, nor could her destiny be avoided. She devoted herself to training in weapons and magic, turning away from all else, until one day a demon appeared. She chased the demon, but could not quite catch it, until the creature passed through the Ban, and Elia followed. This was the beginning of the tragedy. The Ban was dispelled; the demons attacked. Mistress Inish was killed by the terrible scaled Ark Demon, but Elia took revenge and dealt the death blow to the creature. After the battle, it was clear that nothing would ever be the same, and so Elia left the Eternal Forest. She came to the world of Humans, to fight the demons and show the glory of the Aloken.
